Privacy 101 for Educators and School Officials

Organization: Software and Information Industry Association
Published: February 18, 2016

On February 18, 2016, The Software and Information Industry Association’s (SIIA) Education Technology Industry Network (ETIN) co-sponsored a webinar with the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) and AASA: The School Superintendent’s Association.

Over the past three years, many states have passed or implemented new student data privacy laws affecting schools, state departments of education, and school service providers. As this policy area continues to move at the state level and starts to gain traction at the federal level, this free webinar was a primer for educators, school officials, and policymakers. It highlighted trends on requirements facing schools, teachers, and service providers and privacy considerations for schools when adopting new technology. The presenters were Amelia Vance (NASBE), Brendan Desetti (SIIA), and Vincent Scheivert (Albemarle County Public Schools).
